In the state of Colorado, a Natural Medicine Clinical Facilitator is a licensed professional authorized to guide individuals through natural medicine experiences within the state’s regulated framework (established by the Colorado Natural Medicine Health Act).
At Collaborative Counseling of Colorado, our facilitators are unique because they typically hold dual credentials. This means they are not only licensed by the state for natural medicine facilitation but are also Licensed Mental Health Professionals (such as LPCs, LCSWs, or Psychologists).
The “Clinical” designation is a specific license type overseen by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) that signifies a commitment to a higher standard of psychological care, including:
- Scope of Treatment: Unlike standard facilitators, Clinical Facilitators are authorized to provide natural medicine services specifically for the purpose of treating mental health conditions. They work within the scope of their secondary clinical license (e.g., psychotherapy).
- High-Risk Oversight: Clinical Facilitators are trained to manage more complex cases. While standard facilitators may need to refer clients with certain risk factors to a medical professional, a Clinical Facilitator is equipped to provide the necessary screening and safety planning in-house.
- Professional Preparation: Building a therapeutic relationship and setting clear intentions before any experience begins.
- Ethical Facilitation: Providing a steady, expert presence during the ceremony, trained to handle complex emotional and psychological processes.
- Clinical Integration: Using professional therapeutic techniques to help you process your experience and turn insights into lasting, healthy changes in your life.
- Collaboration: When appropriate, our Clinical Facilitators may advise or co-facilitate alongside other licensed facilitators to ensure the highest level of safety for group experiences.
By working with a clinical facilitator, you are ensuring that your journey is supported by both ceremonial wisdom and professional, state-regulated psychological expertise.
