Jim Kemp, PsyD

I excel at helping people throughout the different stages of relationships and I enjoy working with both individuals and couples. I believe in the power of the relationship to be transformative – including the therapy relationship and the relationship one cultivates with oneself.

My clients often tell me that I have a warm and reassuring presence and that I am not afraid to “be real” and give authentic feedback. My therapeutic approach is integrative: I combine a practical focus on strategies to get you “unstuck” with deeper self-exploration to create lasting and meaningful growth.

My Training

I have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from the University of Denver. I have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for relationships (EFT). I have experience working with families, adolescents, adults and couples. I am a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Colorado Psychological Association (CPA), and the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).

In addition to my clinical work I have taught and supervised graduate students at the University of Denver’s Clinical Psychology program since 2013.

How I got to Denver

My family and I chose to move to Colorado in 2005 because it offered the right balance for us between quality of life and career opportunities. I feel very fortunate to live in this beautiful state and enjoy so many opportunities to be active by going hiking, camping, and skiing. I also enjoy working in my garden or relaxing with my family while enjoying the Colorado sunshine.
